FAQs

Do I need a physician’s referral to be treated at Palmetto Physical Therapy?

The state of South Carolina has “Direct Access” to Physical Therapy, which means that you are not legally required to have a Physician’s referral before seeing a Physical Therapist for an evaluation or treatment. However, some insurance coverage may require you to have a referral or “authorization” before they will approve payment. Our office can assist you in determining your insurance benefits for physical therapy.

My doctor referred me to physical therapy, but it’s to another clinic. Can I still come to Palmetto Physical Therapy?

Yes, you have the legal right to go anywhere you choose for your therapy. A physician may only make a recommendation as to where to go; but realize these recommendations may be based on a personal or financial relationship with a particular therapy group, and not necessarily on the skill of the therapists, patient convenience, or customer service. As you search for a therapist, it’s important to choose a clinic that is professional and gives you the personalized attention and the results you deserve.

Will my insurance pay for physical therapy?

We are contracted with most insurance companies including Medicare and Tricare.  Many insurance policies have coverage for physical therapy services.  Your individual benefits (co-pays, deductibles, etc.) vary according to your insurance policy.  Our office can assist you in determining your benefits.  Palmetto Physical Therapy will file your insurance claims for you.

I don’t have insurance coverage. What are my payment options?

We accept payment via cash, check, debit and credit card .  We have a very reasonable cash payment option for those who choose to not file or do not have insurance.  We will arrange payment plans for patients with limited or no insurance.

What are your office hours?

Our office is open Monday through Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.

How many visits will I need?

Many factors, including diagnosis, pre-existing conditions, and lifestyle, impact the frequency and duration of therapy. We work closely with both the patient and referring physician to return our patients to their desired level of activity as quickly and safely as possible.

How long will my appointments last?

Your appointment time may vary depending upon your treatment needs, usually 30 – 40 minutes.  Your entire treatment time is spent one-on-one with a Physical Therapist.  The appointments never overlap with another patient.

What should I wear to my appointment?

Please wear clothing that allows for comfort and unrestricted motion, modesty, and exposing of injured and related areas.  You may bring clothes with you to change into.  Additionally, we have gowns and shorts here at the Clinic if needed.

May I bring my child with me to my appointment?

For safety and effectiveness of treatment sessions, it is best that children not accompany patients to their appointments. However, we understand this might not always be possible and we will do our best to accommodate.
